Celebrating without Saint Patrick’s Day music is like a morning without sunshine. Fortunately, no matter what your age or walk of life, there is more than likely some Irish music that is right up your alley.

There are two roads one can travel down when it comes to choosing appropriate music for a Saint Patrick’s Day party. The first is the traditional route. Songs such as Danny Boy, Cockels & Mussels, Morrison’s Jig, and Father O’Flynn fall into this category. Many people prefer these more well established songs because they have easily and often repeated choruses which people can sing along to. Another reason these songs are popular with the purists is that they have lyrical content which encompasses Irish history and traditions. The second road worth traveling on the quest to the perfect Irish music is the more modern route. According to an online poll, by the U.K. Telegraph, the most popular Saint Patrick’s Day single ever is The Irish Rover by the Pogues. Current Celtic Rock bands like Flogging Molly, The Dropkick Murphys, and Blood or Whiskey have also led a new revolution in Irish themed music. If classic rock is more your speed try songs from Irish born artists such as Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison, or U2. There is no right or wrong, just have fun picking your perfect music !
