The origins of the Easter egg came from the dietary restrictions of Lent hundreds of years ago. Since eggs were not to be eaten they were prized gifts exchanged on Easter morning. As the custom went on people started to dye, color or decorate Easter eggs. This tradition reached its pinnacle with the eastern Europeans in the 1800′s when the prized Faberge Eggs were created. In more modern times the Easter egg plays a major part in the White House Easter Egg Roll that happens on Easter Monday.
